Nestled within the serene Abbey Gardens in Bury St Edmunds, Grounds Café Abbey Gardens is more than just a café—it's a welcoming retreat for both locals and visitors alike. With its vibrant atmosphere and picturesque setting, this charming spot invites you to take a break, sip your favorite drink, and indulge in delightful treats.

As you approach, the enticing aroma of coffee wafts through the air, beckoning you to step inside. The menu boasts a variety of coffee options like the classic Americano and creamy Cappuccino. For dessert lovers, the Affogato—a scoop of gelato bathed in a shot of hot espresso—is a must-try. If tea is more your style, select from the Grounds Blend Mug of Regular Tea or the flavored varieties offered by Novus, perfect for a refreshing pick-me-up.

Grounds Café also caters to those with a sweet tooth, offering a selection of homemade cakes and pastries that pair perfectly with their rich, velvety Hot Chocolate. Visitors like Farhad Timuri rave about the delicious courgette and leek soup of the day, complemented by mouth-watering almond brownies, all served with attentive and friendly service.

The experience at Grounds Café is enhanced by its unique location. Position yourself at a cozy table, and immerse yourself in the lovely sounds of nature, particularly the delightful birdsong, a charming accompaniment to your coffee. Long “LW” Walk expresses it perfectly: "Truly cheerful place! Good coffee, tasty sausage rolls," making it evident that both the ambience and menu resonate with patrons.

Take it from MrsSamhain, who enjoyed a variety of drinks ranging from mango milkshake to matcha iced latte during her visit to the Food & Drink Festival—regardless of your preference, the café's vibrant selection guarantees satisfaction.

While the seating areas provide a comfortable respite, there may be some days when cleanliness doesn’t meet expectations, as noted by Garth Tolmie. However, the warmth and friendliness of the staff, combined with the café's reasonable prices, assure a diverse clientele keeps returning.

Grounds Café Abbey Gardens is not just a place to grab a bite; it's an experience. Whether you're on a short visit or a leisurely day out in the stunning gardens, it's an ideal spot to recharge—it's the little joys like a friendly smile from the barista or the sheer delight of your favorite treat that make your time here truly delightful. So, if you find yourself in Bury St Edmunds, do take a moment to treat yourself—it could be just the escape you need!

Truly cheerful place! Good coffee, tasty sausage rolls, friendly staff. The kiosk sits next to the small aviary, so you can listen to beautiful bird songs while resting.

Happy to see that this establishment is still here. Visited last year and today while in Bury for the Food & Drink Festival. It was lovely to sit and have 20 mins or so after our journey. Everyone enjoyed their drinks, we had a good mixture: mango milkshake, mint choc chip milkshake, vanilla frappe, white chocolate & matcha iced latte, americano, espresso & tea.

Friendly staff. Seating can sometimes be a little dirty. Fair prices - see photos The Garden Café is a kiosk situated in the beautiful Abbey Gardens in the heart of Bury St Edmunds. The Café provides refreshment for all tastes; from a cup of tea and a slice of cake whilst you sit and watch the passers-by … to a selection  of goodies for you to have your own picnic sitting amongst the Abbey ruins. The bean to cup coffees and the tea is Fairtrade and there is also a selection of healthy drinks and snacks should you want to pass on the delicious Whippy Ice cream enjoyed by children of all ages!
